Defining contemporary workspace

Based on the original architectural framework of WuXi AppTec Singapore Branch’s office space, this project takes the core tube (elevator/stair area) as the vertical transportation hub, and comprehensively plans the three-story space to create a modern headquarters office layout with smooth circulation and clear zoning. On the basis of retaining the original building structure and beam-column system, the plan optimizes the vertical traffic circulation to ensure efficient connection and safe evacuation of the three-story office. At the same time, combined with the original building module, it reasonably divides all functional areas such as reception, meeting, office and R&D support, maximizes the use of natural light and space depth, improves space utilization under the premise of meeting structural constraints, and fully adapts to the large-scale and global development needs of the enterprise.

This plan is the spatial layout for WuXi AppTec Singapore Branch. Based on the company’s global operation needs, it scientifically divides functional areas to create an efficient, flexible modern office environment that meets the characteristics of the biopharmaceutical industry, achieving dual improvement of space utilization and office experience. Maximize efficiency: Scientific circulation and functional planning, fully adapting to the compound needs of office + R&D for biopharmaceutical enterprises, improving team operation efficiency. High space utilization: On the premise of meeting functional needs, maximize space utilization, adapting to the future staff expansion and business development of the enterprise. Humanized experience: Taking into account all scenarios of office, collaboration, leisure and R&D, creating a humanized office environment in line with international standards, helping to attract and retain talents. Brand consistency: Deep integration of spatial planning and brand image, from layout to space presentation, conveying the professional, rigorous and international corporate image of WuXi AppTec.

Connecting and putting community at the foremost

Tailored to the high-frequency meeting and collaboration needs of biopharmaceutical enterprises, this project features a comprehensive meeting room system. Based on a minimalist modern style, the space combines warm wood veneers with clean paint on the walls, paired with suspended linear lighting to create a professional, quiet, and comfortable discussion atmosphere. Whether it is a large boardroom, a medium-sized department meeting room, or a small negotiation room, acoustic design and shading systems ensure conference privacy. Equipped with high-definition display systems and video conference terminals, it seamlessly supports cross-border collaboration between Singapore and China, enabling barrier-free connection for efficient decision-making and global communication.

It’s something that we envision ourselves with the client as well as the inspiration from Zaha’s work just outside the window. The identity reminds our client to be the best in the field with a competitive edge for the next decades to come. In order to make the space and the brand sucessful, we’ve gone through extensive research and design to realize perfect curvillinear elements.

What was the starting point for this project ？

The client, WuXi AppTec, did not want a generic office space. As a leading global biopharmaceutical enterprise, they required a headquarters environment that embodies their core values: professionalism, rigor, innovation, and global collaboration. Our starting point was to translate the brand’s identity into a spatial language that balances high-end business reception, efficient R&D office work, and employee well-being, creating a space that supports the company’s long-term global development.

How did you approach the spatial organization of the office?

We broke away from the traditional rigid grid layout. Cen tered on the core vertical traffic (elevators & stairs), we divided the space into four clear functional zones: the recept ion & display lobby, multi-scale meeting & training areas,open office zones, and flexible collaboration & lounge areas. This layout ensures smooth circulation, clear dynamic-s tatic zoning, and maximizes natural light penetration, creating an efficient, connected, and human-centered working environment that adapts to the diverse needs of a biophar maceutical enterprise.

How does the design reflect the clients core values?

First, we integrated the WuXi AppTec brand identity throughout the space, from the reception logo wall to glass partitions, strengthening brand recognition.Second, the rigorous, minimalist design language and high-end materials (travertine, wood veneer, glass)embody the professionalism and rigor required for biopharmaceutical R&D. Third, the flexible collaboration zones, silent booths, and lounge areas reflect the company’s focus on employee well-being and innovative teamwork, fully aligning with the client’s pursuit of excellence and human-centric development.

How did you balance functionality and aesthetics in the design?

We took functionality as the foundation, ensuring every space meets the actual operational needs of the enterprise, from the ergonomic workstations to the acoustic design of meeting rooms. For aesthetics, we adopted a minimalist modern style, using a consistent palette of warm stone, wood, and neutral tones, paired with soft linear lighting, to create a cohesive, high-end atmosphere. Every aesthetic detail serves the functional experience,achieving a perfect integration of practicality and visual beauty.
